Forget the usual flavors that gummies come in like strawberry, raspberry, or even fish.
The new popular flavor is lychee.
What is lychee?
Lychee is s a fruit that is often eaten as a snack. It is a small, tart fruit that is typically found in Asia. The fruit has a unique flavor and texture that is often likened to a grape or cherry.
It originates from China. It is a tropical fruit that is oval-shaped and has thin, red-pinkish-colored skin with white flesh inside and a large seed in the center. Lychees are sweet in flavor and are usually enjoyed for their unique sweetness and slightly tangy taste. They are most commonly eaten fresh on their own, but can also be used in jams, jellies, juices, desserts, and other recipes for a variety of culinary delights.
Gummy it up
The current craze for gummies is taking off and amazingly the number of gummies sold across the USA brings sales of around 12 billion dollars! (Really? Not sure about that TeamSauce research dudes.)
Lychee gummies are packed with an intense, sweet and tart flavor that will knock your sox off! It’s a unique mix of lychee fruit and lychee syrup that guarantees to tantalize your taste buds.
Lychee gummies are bite sized pieces of chewy and fruity goodness.
Gummies are usually made from gelatin which is a type of animal protein (some people say it is ground down cow bones – we will have to look into that!), along with flavors and colors.
Yummy veggie gummy
Vegan gummies are becoming more and more popular.
Made with a combination of ingredients, such as agar-agar, pectin or carrageenan to replace gelatin.
So lychee gummies can be a perfect mix of sweet and tangy with a soft and chewy texture, without the beef.
Made using the sweet and sour flavor of the lychee fruit, they also contain some citric acid to give them an extra kick! So don’t rub them in your eyes.
We do have a recipe for homemade lychee gummies, but it is from Kevin.
Kevin ain’t the greatest at making sweets, so on your head be it.
Kevin’s Home-Made Lychee Gummies

Lychee gummy recipe
- In a saucepan over medium heat, cook sugar, water and cornstarch, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
- In a large bowl, mix together the cooled sugar mixture, lychee juice and all but 4 tablespoons of the prepared gelatin. Set aside.
- In a small bowl, mix together the remaining 4 tablespoons of gelatin and 1/4 cup of cold water. Let stand for about 1 minute, until it reaches a “bloom” stage.
- Add the “bloomed” gelatin to the large bowl with the gelatin/sugar mixture and mix until combined.
- Transfer the mixture to a small baking dish lined with parchment paper.
- Refrigerate the mixture for at least 3 hours, until it is firm.
- Once the mixture is set, use a spatula to stir and break it up. Then use a spoon to form small gummy shapes, about the size of a gumdrop, or a capybara poop.
If this seems all too much just buy them online at the usual places.
